Memo
In the near future I will be introducing legislation to work toward all Pennsylvanians having the opportunity to be educated in firearm safety. Hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians safely enjoy recreational sports with firearms and more importantly our US Constitutional Second Amendment right to bear arms to protect ourselves and loved ones.

The purpose of my legislation is to educate children in firearms and reduce the crime rate in Pennsylvania. The lack of firearm education, I feel is responsible for our kids getting involved in crime that can ultimately lead to them becoming a statistic. Studies show that the more our children are educated in firearms safety, the better chance they have of not becoming a statistic in crime involving firearms.

Honestly, I think firearm education should fall to the parents. I'm not opposed to education in school, but until parents start playing a first hand role in their child's education, it's not going to get much better.

On one hand, I agree with you but OTOH, I'm OK with this and see it as an opportunity for us. Ignorance is our biggest enemy when it comes to gun rights and a little education couldn't hurt.

Agree with both you guys.

I don't expect the legislation to pass though. Would rather see school districts endorsing marksmanship and trap shooting clubs/teams for after-school.

Gun safety in schools might end up like everything else in public schools:
Guns BAD.
Run from bad gun people.
Only authority figures should have guns.
Definitely call the cops on anyone that might own a gun.

Home taught gun safety is better I think too.

I think it's better than nothing. We have to take what we can. Bringing it to the schools could spark the conversation at home, and maybe more parents would teach it at home too. Remember, a lot of this state is in favor of the 2nd amendment. Outside the few big cities we have this is a fairly rural state.
