Clone Shoot 2025 was this past weekend at Southington Range in Garretsville, Ohio.

This was the 3rd clone shoot, and their first time at Southington after seeing how East Coast Night Shoot has been successful at this facility and based on other recommendations. I would estimate there were over 200 attendees.

I have to say this was an amazing event so I wanted to make a post about it, and you can plan to attend next year if this is something you're interested in.

Between East Coast Night Shoot, Big Bore Blast, and Clone Shoot, Southington range is the place to be.

Clone shoot is like a military gun show with an open range. There were plenty of vendors, but attendees were also putting out spreads on the provided tables to show off their military arms and do some trading. It stood out to me that this is a very tight community. There was no theft, and I witnessed a profound amount of generosity and sharing. The event favors the GWOT period rifles, but I saw plenty of older milsurps being shown off and used. There were some belt beds and LMGs, but mostly SMGs, rifles, handguns, bolt guns, shotguns, grenade launchers. Oh, and lots of FRT/super safety action all weekend.

Ohio Ordnance Works was a major sponsor/vendor, and they had MG rentals offered on the 200 yard quarry range. I got to fondle and shoot a CETME Ameli, which was on my list of things I haven't played with.

They also brought the new Reapr. They didn't let anyone shoot it, but the design engineer gave me a full walk through of it, and it is a pretty badass machinegun. I asked him when they would be offering a civilian semiauto version, half joking, and he sighed and said "I know they're going to ask me to design it at some point". Then he explained the various hurdles he will have to overcome to do that. Poor fella haha.

This video is a good summary of the event, just no action shown on the 700M range which was busy all weekend:

I enjoyed some time on the 700M testing out my skills with my M40 clone, L4 Bren, MG42/59, and 40mm M79.

At the end of the 2 days, there was an awards ceremony. They gave away over $30k in prizes. The vendors were incredibly generous with suppressors, uppers, build kits, gucci clone lowers, gift cards for cerakote, etc. A lot of the prizes were random drawings, but many were awarded to judged categories like best CQBR, best bolt gun, best hand gun, best Mk12, etc. Then you had awards for farthest travel, etc. Several people won items worth over a thousand dollars then said "does anyone want this prize, I don't need it" and someone else claimed it. Just an outstanding community. They gave a large prize pack for an "up and comer in the community" to one young man who was deserving of it. There wasn't a dry eye in the place.

I did earn my pass for the weekend. In addition to RO duties, I got to practice my fire fighter skills. A parachute flare started a brush fire Saturday. I deployed in my jeep I trailered out there to the event along with a few helpers on ebikes and we quickly had it out. It rained that morning, but that didn't help.

Damn that looks awesome. Wish I could attend, but I've already allotted all my PTO to WWII events and NASCAR lol
