Any recommendations for an emergency water purifier system? I’m finding lots of The Sky Is Falling! Doomsday! You’re All Gonna Die UNLESS you buy THIS! targeted advertising.

I have heard the Lifestraws are well regarded, and will likely get a few of those for go bags. What about larger capacity for home use? Any recommendations?

No but if I was looking, I'd be looking at camping equipment. Campers have been purifying water for a long time and you should be able to avoid the hype and find good reviews.

You really can't go wrong with an RO/DI system. There's an advantage to it, too. A RO/DI system outputs water not completely purified. I think the ratio is 1:6 where it puts out 1 gallon of pure h20 water and 6 gallons of mostly clean water that can be used for toilets, washing clothes, etc.

I’m thinking more for when life becomes abnormal….. extended power outages, public water contamination, emergency type stuff. Whatever they have planned to cancel the election or transfer of power

Why doesn't Ro/Di work for power outages or public water contamination? It certainly does. Also you can get 330g ibc totes, food grade, for under $50. A couple of them and you can stretch things pretty far.

Also a well works wonders. My well is 450', it would take quite a while for contaminates to reach it.

Getting the water out of the well will be a problem for many, if TSHTF and the grid goes down. I am lucky in that department; 1) I have backup battery that can run my well and 2) I have water at about 9' in my well and figure I can get to it if I have to.

I wouldn't say lucky, more like well prepared.

I can't really argue with that but this came together by luck, not by proactive design.

I’m on public water. We really miss having a well and it is something we want to get back to when we downsize in a few years.

I have a regular RO system in my house for drinking water. So as long as the water comes into my house, we would have RO drinking water. But I have no idea what kind of backup redundancy our town has in place for a grid shutdown. I’d imagine whatever backup they have for their treatment plant and pump stations would not sustain any long term, widespread power outage.

No water coming in means I need to go find water, of unknown quality, and make it potable.

I’m very late to the prepping scene. I have some of the 25 year emergency food kits and just ordered more with a buy 1 get 2 free sale (I’ll post the link)
